The Lawyer Librarian

Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆

My thoughts: Wow, just wow! This book started with a bang, and did not let up until the final page (and even then I am desperate for the next book!). Alex Bryant has expertly weaved a enchanting world filled with illusion and magic. Hector & Cass’ emotional immaturity meant that I sometimes struggled to understand their decisions, but despite this I still found myself rooting for them as characters (especially Hector!). The multi-media aspects are fun, and help to bring the book to life. Whilst there are parallels with Harry Potter, the author has managed to keep the book incredibly original, and I was drawn into the world he has created. Nyxing, mimesis, atroposy - it’s all so clever! .

This story has everything - crime, magic, books, humour - it is one of my top reads of 2020 so far, and will be hard to beat!
